The shape memory alloy of choice for Nitiwear™ is Nitinol (nickel titanium), the most premium of all SMAs. Custom formulations of Nitinol allow for superelastic behavior at room temperature, or if desired, activation by body heat or athletic performance. Molecular level transformations between the material’s martensite and austenite states drive complex interactions with conventional materials & knits (i.e. Niti), to customize to an individual body shape or provide lossless shock absorption and elasticity. Applications include footwear (midsoles, uppers), medical compression, and self-fitting garments.
